Treasures in Heaven is sustainable giving. We are growing an investment portfolio that is dedicated to God's work on Earth forever. We are also tax-exempt, non-profit, public charity. Our purpose is to invest donations wisely and give to Christian world missions until Christ returns.
The founder of Treasures in Heaven had spent years praying about the best way to be a good steward of his time and money and honor God with his limited resources. In 2002, at a class at his church called "Perspectives on the World Christian Movement," Steve felt challenged by the Holy Spirit to consider the financial impact on the Kingdom if he gave money before investing it instead of at the end of his life. This lead to the idea of invested-giving through a non-profit organization.
At the lowest point of the Great Recession, Steve again felt challenged, after a period of unemployment, to dedicate his first paycheck to God as a first-fruits offering. He felt led by God to invest the money in a mutual fund (FCPVX) on 3/20/2009 and sell on 10/13/2009 for a almost miraculous 64% return. Steve shared with two of his most trusted and financially savvy friends, that he now felt called to start Treasures in Heaven and asked them to join him.
To our knowledge, we are the first and only non-denominational, Christian, public charity dedicated to funding world missions forever.
The TiH Board has adopted an investment policy which determines our investment objectives, risk tolerance, and which types of companies our investment managers may trade. As our portfolio grows and becomes more complicated, we will continue to re-evaluate our investment strategies and our need for external advisers.
We believe that the primary giving responsibility of the Christ-follower is to support their local church before supporting individual missionaries or para-church organizations like Treasures in Heaven. We also believe that one of the primary responsibilities of the local church is filter, coach, encourage, and support those in their congregation who are called by God to serve as missionaries.
Sharing directly in the work of a missionary something that all Christians should do. Missionaries don't need just a check. They need people that they can connect with, pray with, and be accountable to. If you know someone who is doing mission work and you believe in what they are doing, ask them if you can join their support team. Giving, praying and sharing with them will connect you to God's work in a very special way.
Treasures in Heaven is a long term investment in the future of mission work, and giving to Treasures in Heaven can be part of a wise, strategic giving plan.
We consider ourselves "Evangelical Christian" but we are not associated with any church denomination. This gives us the freedom to support any Christian organization that aligns with our purpose, values, and beliefs.
We are allowed to give to any Christian organization, and we prefer to give to organizations that promote world missions. For more information on how we decide whom we will fund, read our Giving Policy.
When a $600 donation is given to TiH:
For each year after that, approximately 4% of that $495 (about $20) is given to missions. and 0.5% ($2.50) is used for administrative and financial management fees. Over time, those amounts will grow as the investments increase in value.
Treasures in Heaven does have a Statement of Faith which limits the types of charities we will support. Read our Statement of Faith and our Giving Policy for more information.
