Compensation Policy

Treasures in Heaven is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization and is viewed as a public trust, which is subject to scrutiny by and accountable to governmental authorities as well as to the organization's supporters and members of the general public.

In order to insure that those in positions of control in the organization do not benefit unduly from compensation, the organization has adopted this policy to govern compensation of executives, officers, and staff.

  1. Fair compensation may be provided for offices and responsibilities that require more time and skill than can be reasonably expected from a volunteer, if the organization's operating budget allows for such compensation.
  2. Individuals involved in approving compensation arrangements must read and abide by the organization's Conflict of Interest Policy.
  3. No executive compensation shall be paid until compensation is approved by the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. The Executive Committee may charge the President with assigning compensation to staff members from the organization's operating budget.
  4. The Executive Committee must approve all staff compensation that exceeds the median annual household income as determined by the most recently published US Census Bureau Report. ($52,029 in 2008)
  5. All compensation approvals and offers, including the date and terms, must be documented in writing.
  6. The names of the individuals who voted or decided on compensation arrangements will be recorded. The specific vote or decision of each individual need not be recorded.
  7. Compensation decisions shall be based on information about compensation paid by similarly situated taxable or tax-exempt organizations for similar services. This information and its sources shall be documented in writing.
  8. Individuals shall be reimbursed for reasonable expenses which they are authorized to make and which fall within the limitations of the organization's approved budget.
Version 5, Adopted July 28, 2010
